The Swiss Colony History and Overview
Ray Kubly began The Swiss Colony in 1926. His starting place was Monroe, Wisconsin to sell his delicious cheeses. Wisconsin is famous for their cheese and Ray has taken part in distributing the delicious cheeses throughout America. Of course, there was only so much that could be done in Ray’s basement. He created and mailed his own advertisements. He handled all orders that came in for his cheeses and shipped them himself as well. The first year was one that produced 50 packages of cheese; all of which were sold.
While his business was slowly yet surely growing, Ray still needed to provide a steady income for his family. The revenue from 50 packages of cheese simply wouldn’t cut it for their grocery bills and such. That is why he continued to work full-time until 1961. Backing up, the depression years were rather tough on The Swiss Colony which slowed the progress. After the depression years ended, though, the company grew quickly in popularity. In fact, it broke records regarding the number of shipments it needed to send out. Indeed, The Swiss Colony is a company that worked hard to make it in this industry.
This Business is All about Family
By the time 1961 came about, Ray was making enough to leave his full-time gig and focus all his time and energy on The Swiss Colony. The Swiss Colony has changed quite a bit since its early days in the 1920’s. While they still offer their famous Wisconsin cheeses, they also specialize in several other things.
